Hey! Hey! Hey!

Thanks for visiting my website.

My name is Vivian Grace Ostan. And yep, you bet, I have a double first name.

I am a designer, creator, and artist based on the west coast of Canada. I am born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. And I have roots in the Philippines, in the region of Aklan. I love colour, texture, shadows, light, typeface, and fonts. I make many things! I love to learn new crafts and let my creativity grow and shine.

It's an Ostan is my brand and avenue for my fashion clothing and footwear business.

I find inspiration in the world around me: architecture, the sky, landscapes, people, the beach, flowers and plants, the forest, cityscapes, the stars, music, conversations, beach rocks... when the wind blows and the ocean roars.

Where does my brand name come from? It's an Ostan is a phrase coined by my dear friend Sarah, when we were 14 years old, in Ms. Olsen’s Grade 9 junior high art class.

The Shoe Story

It’s an Ostan started out as a girl who had a dream to make her own footwear. Disappointed every winter, unable to fit into pairs of tall leather boots and refusing to wear synthetic material ones. After taking her first shoemaking course in 2012, Vivian Grace tossed out the idea of making tall leather boots and focused on sneakers.

An environmentalist, since a young age, Vivian Grace, was set with the idea to make sneakers that could be resoled. Offering a service to take her customers’ well loved leather sneakers and give them a long life, rather than being tossed in the land fill. She wanted to make sure her footwear was not part of the throwaway culture.

Creating footwear that can be resoled is still the dream. It’s just taking longer to get there, as It’s an Ostan explores different avenues and grows as a garment and footwear business.
